Germany says waits for Russia's statement on Navalny

BERLIN, Sep 4 (PRIME) -- The German government declined to comment on whether it will stick to the principle of separate consideration of Alexei Navalny’s suspected poisoning and the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project, spokesman Steffen Seibert said on Friday, adding that the position will depend on Russia’s official statement on the issue.

"We will discuss the situation with the European partners, with the partners in the NATO. We will see what Russia’s official answer will be, how they will react and will decide on our joint suitable reaction," Seibert said.

The parliamentary faction of Germany's Christian Democratic Union / Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) does not rule out new sanctions against Russia over suspected poisoning of Navalny, Jurgen Hardt, speaker for foreign affairs, said on Wednesday. Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germany must not involve Nord Stream-2 in the case.
